This years' 100xCiencia.6 is organized by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) in Barcelona on 3 November 2022. The Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu Alliance (SOMMa) will take place in-person and streamed online.
100xCiencia.6 will address topics of great relevance for our society. The opening lecture will be given by Janet Kelso, from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (Germany). The programme will be structured in four main pillars: Artificial intelligence, Climate change and sustainable development, Major health issues and Basic research.
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), together with the SOMMa alliance, is co-organising 100xCiencia.6 on "Science for the future: Building a fairer and more sustainable horizon", which will be held on 3 November at the Pedralbes Palace in Barcelona and will be broadcast in open streaming for all audiences.
100xCiencia is the annual scientific meeting of the SOMMa alliance that brings together the scientific community of the 59 members, together with the project management teams, technology transfer and communication officers and others, in a day to share and reflect on issues of great relevance to our society.
The inaugural conference will be given by Janet Kelso, researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (Germany). She will give the talk "Insights into human history and biology from ancient genomes".
Kelso, who is part of Svante Pääbo's research team, was recently awarded with the 2022 Nobel Prize in Medicine. She will share the latest technological advances that have made it possible to recover and sequence DNA from bones and other remains found in archaeological excavations, reconstructing the genomes of several Neanderthals.
The Royal Palace of Pedralbes (Palau Reial de Pedralbes) is the venue of the sixth edition of #100xCiencia6, which will bring together more than 200 attendees, members of the SOMMa alliance, together with researchers from different fields who will address topics of great relevance to our society.
On Friday, 4 November 2022, the General Assembly of the SOMMa members and the working group meetings (gender, project managing, technology transfer, communication, etc) will take place at the BSC.
From ICMAB, M. Rosa Palacín and David Amabilino will attend the 100xCiencia.6 meeting, and Laura Cabana, Anna May Masnou, Montse Salas, Esther Barrena, Alfonso del Rey and others will attend some of the working group meetings too.
