In the framework of the MSCA-RISE 2017 H2020 Project: Hybrid Nanostructured Oligonucleotide Platforms for Biomedical Applications (Nano-OligoMed), the International Summer School on Hybrid (bio) Nanostructures (HyNano), which is focused on hybrid organic-inorganic materials containing biomolecules or having bioinspired structures, will take place in Alghero (Italy) between 3-7 September 2019. Nora Ventosa from the NANOMOL group is Invited Speaker. Register before 30 June 2019! 

This Sunday, 26 May 2019, the 8th International Conference on Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (ICSE8) starts at the World Trade Center, and will last until 31 May 2019. Six days devoted to the instrumentation, science and applications of spectroscopic ellipsometry and related techniques, and with a high participation of ICMAB researchers. The Conference Chair is M. Isabel Alonso, from the ICMAB-CSIC.

The event, held on 8-9 May, belongs to the series of workshops offering an overview of the different research areas covered by the ICMAB Severo Ochoa Strategic Plan. It was focused on molecular and organic electronics, and organised by a local organising committee formed by researchers of the research lines RL1 (Sustainable energy conversion and storage systems) and RL4 (Molecular electronics). 

We invite you to the II Workshop on Spectroscopy Techniques: Generalities and Applications, which will be held at ICMAB, Barcelona, on April 1, 2019. If you are working in this field, or are interested in spectroscopy techniques, such as Raman, EPR or NMR, you cannot miss it! We encourage PhD and Master students to attend! Registration is free and deadline is March 15, 2019. 

On Monday, 11 February 2019, we will celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science at ICMAB! We have a full morning prepared with a seminar to discover who was and what did Lise Meitner do, followed by a presentation of some of the participants of the STEM-AMB-TU initiative from AMIT-CAT to encourage scientific vocations to young girls. On Tuesday, 29 January 2019, the Welcome Day of the Doctoral Training Programme in Functional Advanced Materials (DOC-FAM) First Call Fellows took place at the ICMAB. The DOC-FAM is a H2020-MSCA-COFUND project coordinated by ICMAB-CSIC in collaboration with four partner research institutions from the area: IMB-CNM, IREC, ALBA Synchrotron and ICN2. In this first call, 10 PhD Fellows from all around the world have started their research training programme within these institutions. Meet them here! 

The CMES is the "Col·lectiu per a un Nou Model Energètic i Social Sostenible". Funded in 2012, the group is formed by professionals, mainly from the engineering field, worried about the current energy model based on fossil fuels and uranium, which "will lead us to an environmental, economic and social crisis without precedents". The CMES group came to visit the ICMAB and listen to some of our researchers working on renewable energies, superconducting materials and batteries. Now, Xavier Obradors, ICMAB Director, will give a talk on "Nanotechnology and energy transition" on February 4, 2019. 

On Tuesday, 29 January 2019, the Welcome Day for the COFUND MSCA Doctoral Training Programme on Functional Advanced Materials "DOC-FAM" PhD Fellows will take place at ICMAB. The Welcome Day is aimed to present the project and introduce the first call PhD fellows and their projects. In this first call, the projects are being carried out at ICMAB-CSIC, ALBA Synchrotron and IREC. 

The "Scientific Meeting of BNC-b Students" organized by PhD fellows and open to undergraduate, master students and PhD researchers, comes back in 2019! The meeting is aimed to present the work performed by PhD students of the whole Barcelona Nanotechnology Cluster – Bellaterra (ICMAB, ICN2, IMB-CNM, UAB, ALBA), promoting collaborations between them in an academic and scientific environment. The meeting will be held at ICMAB and ICN2 on 6-7 June 2019. Abstracts and registration deadline: 26 April 2019. Will you miss it?

The second Organic and Molecular Electronics Meeting at ICMAB (ORGI2019) will take place on 8-9 May 2019 at ICMAB. The workshop will bring together groups from ICMAB or nearby Institutions working on different aspects in the field of Molecular Electronics with the main aim of promoting scientific collaborations and synergies among researchers. Deadline for registration and short abstract submission is 8 April 2019. 

The VII Spanish Worm Meeting (SWM) will take place in Castelldefels (Barcelona), on March 28-29, 2019. Anna Laromaine, from the ICMAB-CSIC, is one of the organizers of this year's meeting. 

This meeting is a biennial gathering of the scientific community working with C. elegans, with special focus on laboratories located in Spain or Spanish scientists working abroad. Deadline for abstracts submission is February 19, 2019.

The young researchers who are being trained in our research groups will be key to addressing the future challenges of research and the new challenges of society. From the ICMAB-CSIC, in addition to their scientific training, we help them to know the wide range of professional perspectives that a PhD opens in other areas besides the academic world.

On 17-20 September 2018, ICMAB hosted the Severo Ochoa Summer School on Materials for Energy (MATENER 2018) with 12 highly-talented invited speakers, 4 in-house speakers, and more than 40 participants from around the world. The school was centered on the big topic "materials for energy" and focused materials for photovoltaics, batteries, supercapacitors, batteries and superconducting applications. 

On 17-20 September ICMAB will host the MATENER 2018: Severo Ochoa Summer School on Materials for Energy. This summer school is addressed to last year undergraduate, master and PhD students, who are interested in the development of materials with energy applications, such as photovoltaics, thermoelectrics, batteries or superconducting materials. This year 2018 we celebrate the centenary of Richard P. Feynman, one of the greatests scientists of the XX century. The Campus UAB will host a cycle of Feynman Talks in different research centers. The first one, by Prof. David Kaiser, from MIT, will be at the Faculty of Science of UAB (Sala d'actes) on Wednesday, 9 May, 2018 at 12 pm.

On 16 March 2018, with the aim of introducing this concept to the research community at ICMAB, and in collaboration with the Marie-Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) i-Switch, a workshop on "Ethics and Responsible Research & Innovation in Research" (RRI2018) was organized. 

The workshop gathered several experts from the field that provided us with some insights on how to deal with some of the aspects included in RRI, from ethics and gender aspects in research to integrity and scientific misconduct. Two practical workshops focusing on the promotion of RRI and the available methods to implement it, by Rosina Malagrida (IrSiCaixa), were also included. 

On Thursday 19 April, and Friday 20 April, ICMAB will host the "Workshop on Assessing the technology transfer potentials at ICMAB. Results and benchmarking" open to all ICMAB members.

The workshop will present the results of the study performed during this previous months about the technology transfer potential of the Institue research and projects. Joins us!

On Wednesday, 21 March 2018, two ex members of the European Parliament, Britta Thomsen (Denmark) and Teresa Riera Madurell (Spain) came to our center to join an informal roundtable on a very familiar topic for them: Future Science in Europe: Excellence, Innovation and Openness, invited by our UTC officer, Susana Garelik. 

Join the18^th International Conference on High Pressure Semiconductor Physics and the 2nd International Workshop on High Pressure Study of Superconductors (HPSP18 & WHS2) , that will be held at CosmoCaixa Museum (Barcelona) on 23-27 July 2018.

ICREA Research Professor at ICMAB, Alejandro Goñi, is a member of the Organizing Committee and responsible for hosting this event. 

On Friday 16 February, the secondary school teachers enrolled in the "Physics and Chemistry Permanent Seminars" organized by Miquel Calvet and Fina Guitart from the CESIRE* (Centre de Recursos Pedagògics Específics de Suport a la Innovació i la Recerca Educativa), came for an afternoon at ICMAB.

Future Science in Europe: Excellence, Innovation and Openness. 

A workshop on Ethics and Responsible Research & Innovation in Research takes place on March 16, 2018, at ICMAB. Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI) is a concept that has gained visibility and importance in the recent years, and involves the participation of multiple actors (researchers, citizens, policy makers, business, third sector organisations, etc. ) in the research and innovation process, enabling easier access to scientific results, the take up of gender and ethics in the research and innovation content and process, and formal and informal science education.

Technologies for Oxide Electronics School 2018 will be organized by the ICMAB and will be held in Hotel Eden Roc, Sant Feliu, Spain 15-17^th March 2018, right after the COST TO-BE Spring Meeting on "Towards Oxide Electronics".

The COST TO-BE Spring Meeting 2018 will be organized by the ICMAB and will be held in Hotel Eden Roc, Sant Feliu, Spain 12-14^th March 2018. The meeting, which will be the last one of the series organised by the TO-BE consortium, will be the stage for the presentation of the contents of the Roadmap "Towards oxide electronics" prepared within the context of TO-BE Cost Action. 

On Monday, July 16, 2018, the first ICMAB-CRAG meeting will take place from 9 am to 4 pm at CRAG Auditorium. The goal of this meeting is to promote new collaborations among researchers from the ICMAB and the CRAG, facilitating the exchange of knowledge among different scientific fields and exploring new approaches to address complex questions. Everyone is invited!

HERLALD  (Hooking together European Research in Atomic Layer Deposition), a COST Action that aims to structure and integrate European research activity in ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition), organizes the 2nd HERALD.ECI Workshop with hands-on training for "bonding HERALD.ECIs from ideas to proposals", which will be held at ICMAB on 1-2 March 2018.

Are you a researcher looking for illustrators and designers to illustrate your paper, and get your article published on a scientific journal cover? Or maybe you are an illustrator or designer, passionate about science, who would like to collaborate with researchers?

The 3rd Face to Face Project Meeting for FASTGRID is being held on the 19-20 October 2017 at the UAB Campus. The meeting is organized by KIT in Karlsruhe and hosted by ICMAB, in Barcelona. The project meeting starts at 12.00 pm on Thursday with a lab tour of ICMAB, followed by the individual partner presentations as well as status report by the project coordinator, Pascal Tixador from CNRS, at 2 pm at Hotel Campus, Bellaterra.

ICMAB hosted on July 2017 an afternoon lecture and visit of thesummer school in physics, a bilateral exchange program for young female physicists in the transition phase to Master or PhD studies. 

During the last 10-12 July, more than 50 members of ICMAB spent three days in Sant Feliu de Guíxols for the Nanoselect Network Of Excellence Annual Meeting 2017. The three days were filled with talks and poster sessions, of many interesting topics. 

Within the collection "¿Qué sabemos de?" (What do we know of?) from the CSIC, there is the book called "Los riesgos de la nanotecnología" (The risks of nanotechnology) that has been recently published. We will have the authors of the book here with us on 17 July at 12 pm, at Sala d'actes Carles Miravitlles. We welcome you to participate in this interesting debate!

ICMAB hosted its first International Summer School on Materials for Biomedical Application (MATBIO2017) with four days full of lectures and hands-on activities, and with over 45 students of 21 different institutions and more than 8 different countries.
