ICMAB is contributing with two activities on the Barcelona Festa de la Ciència, on June 13, in front of the sea, in the Barceloneta area. The Biennal Ciutat i Ciència takes place during that same week.
An event to consider the potentials and limitations of knowledge. The Biennal Ciutat i Ciència introduces science to the social debate, approaching society through several lenses, like the advancements that define the future, the ethical implications of science, the link between science and art, sociology, politics, gender equality, sustainability, and more.
The Biennal Ciutat i Ciència will take place between 8 and 13 June. During the whole week there are many activities, both presential and online, that you can join. Take a look at the programme and enjoy science!
This year’s edition of the Biennal Ciutat i Ciència includes the Festa de la Ciència, on Sunday, 13 June. A space to learn and discover more through research and experimentation. A place where to discover the wonders of science with the help of scientists from local entities, like ICMAB! Our researchers have prepared two events for this occasion:
As part of the NEW TECHNOLOGIES micro-talks, Pamela Machado, from the Superconducting and Large Scale Nanostructres (SUMAN) Group, will give a microtalk on the new materials for the transition to a more sustainable and renewable energy model, with a focus on the new materials that can transform solar energy into electricity more efficiently than the ones based in Silicon.
Presented by Clàudia Diviu, with the collaboration of the Associació Catalana de Comunicació Científica (ACCC).
Where: Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC)
When: Sunday, June 13, from 13:45 to 14:25 h
As part of the MATTER AND MATERIALS demos and workshops, Anna Crespi, from the X-Ray Diffraction Service, Judith Oró, from the Electron Microscopy Service, and Roberta Ceravola, from the Thermal Analysis Laboratory, offer interesting demonstrations of the more surprising properties of minerals. Fluorescence, magnetism, electric conductivity, and more! Come and discover the amazing properties of some of the objects you can find at home, such as matches or tonic water.
Where: Parc de la Barceloneta
When: Sunday, June 13, 2021, from 16:00 to 18:15 (many shows within this interval)
These two events and many more interesting activities are available (with inscription!) for June 13.
