A collection of interviews to showcase the expertise in the energy field of the four groups participating at the R+D+I network XRE4S #FEDERrecerca
Improving the ways in which we harvest, store and distribute energy is proving to be an important development in order to aid in solving some of our largest environmental issues. Catalunya has a large collection of multidisciplinary institutions researching how to improve the energy transition, which includes some of ICMAB’s own research.
The XRE4S is the R+D+I Network Energy for Society, a network that brings together 14 Catalan Research Institutes and Universities to promote the technology transfer between them and with external entities, as well as the valorization of their work and results towards industrial partners and society at large.
The #MeetTheExpert campaign is doing exactly that: promoting the energy expertise and the valorization of new technologies coming from the experts themselves. The XRE4s interviews 36 experts on the topic, including the ICMAB Researchers participating in the network.
Sodium and calcium are the focus of this research on new materials for energy storage applications, an effort to find more abundant and cheap resources that could substitute the current standard: lithium.
Research focuses on conversion, from heat to electricity with thermoelectric generators, and from light to electricity with photovoltaic generators. These technologies are being studied and upscaled to make them more sustainable.
Levitating properties and zero resistance at liquid nitrogen temperature; the exciting properties of these materials make them attractive for energy applications as they offer a dramatic reduction on energy loss.
Hydrophobic boron compounds can help improve the water stability of some metalorganic frameworks (MOFs) that offer some interesting properties for energy applications but are, at the moment, unstable in water, not even stable under air humidity.
The work of these researchers thrives in a rich ecosystem of institutions full of experts like these. There is much more to discover, you can watch the +30 interviews in the XRE4S channel! Here you can see the Director of the XRE4S network, Manel Sanmartí, from IREC, explaining the main goals and contributors of the network.
