The agreements set on the Paris Climate Agreement for Europe were quite ambitious. Remarkable efforts in science, policy, and social adaptation will be required in order to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality all across Europe by 2050.

In this article published by the Reial Acadèmia de Ciències i Arts de Barcelona (RACAB), ICMAB Director Xavier Obradors delves into the specific situation of Catalunya in this objective, with a focus on the current situation, consumption, and technology, while considering the projected trends for the future.

The Reial Acadèmia de Ciències i Arts de Barcelona is an association of different individuals who study science and its applications that has been promoting the position of science in Catalan culture and society for more than 250 years.

Some of the questions treated include the technologies required to achieve such monumental objectives, the need to convert our main energy source, fossil fuels, into green energies, as well as the nuclear sources, the space and resources needed to achieve it, and the changes in consumption that our society has to expect and be ready for.
